The Challenge
Certus Biomedical supply, maintain and carry out extensive repairs on life-critical devices worldwide. Due to their success, the company has grown considerably over the last few years, and there was a pressing need to advance its infrastructure to accommodate customers’ needs.
Their field-based engineers work nationwide to provide vital services, repairs and bespoke installations for Biomedical Engineering, Veterinary Equipment, Specialist Installations and Laboratory Equipment. To achieve this, their staff and customers needed to have the ability to access their online information in real-time, as at the time, this was being carried out manually.
Solution
We designed and built their online portal and mobile application that allows their customers to view medical equipment 24/7. This includes:
– Service History.
– Age and condition of the medical equipment.
– Equipment data.
– Engineer visits.
– Site information (including all equipment designated to that
site)
– Records of all equipment that have ongoing issues.
– Emergency contact information and much more.
This enables the customer to have complete visibility of events.
The portal provides its staff and customers with seamless performance, instant updates, flexibility, and the ability to create unique solutions for their customers’ needs.
Due to the nature of their business, the security of the software is integral, so the data was encrypted within one infrastructure, reducing the number of risks.

At the start of this project, we decided to split the project into Native Mobile App Development and Web Development due to the requirements supplied.
The client wanted the Mobile App to access some of the phones’ native built-in functionality, but they didn’t want to write different code versions for each platform. We agreed that we
would use React Native to build the Mobile App. By doing this, we only needed to develop one code base for all platforms but still have the flexibility to access some of the phones’ native features.
The Web Portal we developed was very similar to the mobile application but had more admin functionality attached. Next was the preferred option in this instance because it’s a framework we all have experience in and the speed and features that Next offer are far superior to its competitors.
Finally, the API was written using GQL and GoLang. GQL was a must in this type of project where it will pass information to a phone and a desktop. The phone can then choose what information it wants to display with more flexibility.
